WANA (Jan 30) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed recent allegations made by the European Union’s new foreign policy chief and his spokesperson regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran, urging them to grasp the true meanings of terms such as “threat” and “international peace and security” to avoid trivializing these concepts.

In a media statement, Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei emphasized, “The primary and persistent threat to global peace and security is the apartheid and occupying regime that possesses a stockpile of weapons of mass destruction. Over the past 15 months alone, this regime has committed brutal acts of genocide, taking the lives of over 60,000 innocent people, perpetrating heinous international crimes, and continuing its aggression and occupation.”

Addressing claims linking Iran to the Ukraine crisis, Baghaei reiterated, “The Ukraine crisis has no connection to Iran. The Islamic Republic has consistently stressed the need to end the war and resolve disputes through diplomacy. Blame-shifting and scapegoating others will not help address the crises caused by Europe’s misguided policies.”

Baghaei also denounced accusations of Iran supporting terrorism, stating, “The European Union must recognize that hosting terrorist groups and elements openly by some of its key members strips it of any moral authority to accuse others.”

Rejecting interference in the internal affairs of other nations under pretexts such as human rights, Baghaei declared, “Human rights are a valuable human legacy and should not be exploited as a tool for meddling in the domestic affairs of countries.”

Reaffirming the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, Baghaei reminded the EU of its failure to uphold its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), especially after the U.S. withdrawal from the agreement. “The EU lacked the will and independence to preserve an agreement it had a hand in creating and failed to fulfill its obligations,” he added.

Concluding his remarks, Baghaei urged the EU to adopt a realistic approach rooted in justice, respect for the rights of other nations, and adherence to the principles of the UN Charter and international law. “If the EU seeks to play a constructive and impactful role in international affairs, it must prioritize these valu

es,” he said.
